Employee testimonials

Four employees tell about their work at Clipper

Angela Choo, Office Manager, Clipper Group, Singapore

-What is your role in Clipper?

"As Office Manager, it’s my daily duty in conjunction with the head of the company to provide support to office staff by ensuring a well-organized working environment. I do this through developing and implementing administrative routines, personnel policies, efficient filing systems, booking of travel and accommodation, etc."

- What was it like being new?

"The cultural difference between eastern and western company culture proved to be very interesting and enjoyable but also presented challenges in the beginning and some useful adjustment to my way of thinking. Westerners are very flexible and open-minded in a lot of aspects such as trusting the employees, communications and freedom of speech, expressing ones opinions and emotions. And in the eastern culture, it’s quite the opposite."

- What makes working at Clipper special?

"We have a supportive company management and a good fit between culture and office attitudes.  These are important ingredients to long-term work satisfaction and a happy working environment. Clipper respects the individual and our management focuses on developing the individual to the benefit of both company and employee."

Jesper Rasmussen, Director, Clipper Bulk Transportes Marítimos Ltda., Alphaville-São Paulo

- What is your role at Clipper?

"I'm the director of our São Paulo Bulk office. We primarily attend the Brazilian, Argentinean, Peruvian and Chilean clients in the handysize, supramax and panamax segments."

- What was it like being new?

"We had a perfect start, starting out two weeks in our head office in Denmark. This resulted in some good personal networking, enabling team work, which is the key to success. We quickly felt welcome onboard."

- What makes working at Clipper special?

"Evaluating the 12 months I have been in the company now, I find our trainee education impressive, with solid practical and theoretical education. At a very early stage we have some very competent colleagues, which we continue to build on. The mix of young and experienced colleagues gives a good match overall. Also, we have very professional internal departments, enabling us to quickly provide freight solutions and good service to our clients."

Kenneth Mollerup, Head of Business Controlling, Clipper Group, Copenhagen

- What is your role at Clipper?

“I am head of Clipper’s Business Controlling team. My main responsibility is our internal reporting for the various business segments and the development of Business Intelligence. In my team we are three employees dedicated to delivering useful information to decision makers.”

- What was it like being new?

“I started in Clipper right after finalizing my traineeship in another company. I went through an intro program, which prepared me for my career. Even though Clipper is a large company, all my colleagues welcomed me, and made me feel part of the “family”.”

- What makes working at Clipper special?

“Clipper is “odd” because it’s a large company, but operates without all the bureaucracy typical for large companies. It’s a very flat organization, and all employees are treated equally.”

Kristine Biering, Chartering Manager, Clipper Bulk, Singapore

- What is your role at Clipper?

"I work in the chartering department of Clipper Bulk, where I’m responsible for the daily commercial management of our vessels. This includes finding employment for each ship in order to optimize voyages and create value. I started my career in our office in Copenhagen and moved to Singapore in 2012."

- What was it like being new?

"I started working as a shipping trainee in August 2007. It was an extremely positive experience, and although it is a big company, my new colleagues made me feel very welcome. Clipper’s corporate spirit is very special and admirable."

- What makes working at Clipper special?

"Culture, that’s what makes Clipper different from other shipping companies. Clipper’s open-minded attitude and non-hierarchical structure allows everyone to have a say."
