Practical training

Through on-the-job training, you will gain practical shipping experience by participating in the day-to-day work of the department you are working in. You will receive an individual rotation plan and be part of an internal interchange program, enabling you to get acquainted with various departments in Clipper:

  • Chartering 
  • Operations incl. Bunkers
  • Business Controlling
  • The last 6 months will preferably be in the department in which the trainee hopefully will continue his/her employment upon graduation

Although you are being trained for a position in either Chartering or Operations, it is important that you gain knowledge of other parts of Clipper as well, understandig the entire value chain of the shipping business.

You will always be supervised by a tutor, but, to the extent possible, you will be in charge of your own assignments within:

  • Chartering
  • Operation
  • Vessel particularities
  • Shipping and route planning
  • Completion of documents
  • Customs and clearing
  • Import/export
  • Accounting and finance
  • Updating of position and fleet lists
  • Technical management of the vessels

Trainee appraisals
In order to reach the objectives of the trainee programme, a number of appraisal meetings are held during the two-year traineeship. During each department stay you will be invited to three meetings:

  • Introduction meeting where learning goals and tasks are presented
  • Midway appraisal meeting
  • Final appraisal meeting

All appraisals will be included when you are evaluated for the final period of the traineeship.
