Onboard training

Clipper Fleet Management’s services include Onboard Training for seafarers. The Onboard Training team in Mumbai is responsible for designing, planning and conducting Onboard Training for vessels managed by CFM. Our Onboard Training services are also available to external customers, customized after the training needs.

The training needs are typically identified by the SQE department or the vessel’s Master and Senior Officers. Our experienced Training Superintendents board each vessel at least one a year – training approximately 250 seafarers annually. A training normally takes place over 7-9 days at sea, including modules in:

  • Vetting / 3rd party inspections
  • Risk assessments
  • Passage planning
  • Incident investigation
  • Permit to work systems
  • ISPS
  • Safety management systems
  • Gas instruments
  • MARPOL + OPA 90

What started out as a necessity and matter of compliance, soon developed beyond the usual requirements, rules and processes. Understanding why something needs to be done in a particular manner, raises attention and awareness around the task. We want our seafarers to impact and influence others, to think of safety first, and to take pride in doing things the right way.

Clipper Fleet Management in India has been ISO 29990 certified as Learning Services Provider by Bureau Veritas. The certificate stands for ‘providing learning services to seafarers to enhance their competence and skills through a combination of safety, environment, quality and behavioral facilitation.'
